Without viable economic alternatives available, this area is home to an ever-growing pool of alienated rural dwellers who are willing to risk their lives to rhino poaching. Often the only pathway out of poverty available to people in rural areas is through participation in illegal wildlife economies.

By introducing innovative change, Wild and Free Foundation is making a huge impact on the fight to save the rhino from extinction.
The organization believes that both its soccer league and the permaculture farming program will have a ripple effect when tackling community problems
such as poverty, hunger, idleness and boredom.
Every day spells a new challenge for WFF’s dedicated staff members.
They are passionate in their belief that by encouraging rural communities who live adjacent to the KNP to take part
in a sport they love, the villagers are given a viable alternative to poaching.
Wild and Free Foundation also believes that with constant liaison with members of the government and the young men and women
who participate in the Rhino Cup Champions League, their projects will instill an understanding of the need to preserve wildlife and the environment.
The need for funding is unending as WFF strives to provide
prize money, league uniforms, soccer boots and transport to-and-from the different venues.
Wild and Free Foundation also employs qualified referees and maintain the soccer fields
in Sabíe, Corumana, Mavunguane, Mahungo, Baptine and Mucacaza.
